About this project

This site is a collection of images gathered from around the internet (where possible I have included a link to the original source material), restored and reimagined using a mix of AI tools and careful hand editing in Photoshop. In places I’ve taken a bit of artistic licence to rebuild missing detail or colour. It’s an ongoing project, so images may change as better sources appear or techniques improve.

The aim is simple: to show Portlaoise as it may have looked across the last hundred years and more. For deeper background on the people and stories behind these buildings, have a look at John Dunne’s Portlaoise Pictures and the Laois Local Studies resources.
